Kayak to Faroes - 3:10pm edited update

Just spoken to the chap driving the boat that's looking for them.  He says Mick and Patrick have changed their intended landing site to a place further up the west coast of Suderoy.  I didn't catch the name of the port, sorry.  A head-wind has sprung up so their progress has slowed.

The boat can perform a rescue if necessary, but will not do so unless requested by Mick and Patrick.  Somehow I don't think they'll be asking for help now.  So the boat is standing by, outside this new port, ready to watch them come in.

My nerves are frayed.... How are yours?

EDIT: I replayed the recording of the phone conversation with the skipper and it sounds like Mick and Patrick are now headed quite a long way up the coast of the island to Famjin.

Hi Simon - I know now that they'll make it but yes, nerves are getting frayed! Are you sure it's the west coast of Suderoy? I think most of the towns and villages (and suitable landing places) are on the east coast.

Hi Alan
Just checked - very bad line and poor recording - but I'm pretty sure it's west coast and Famjin

Hi Simon - Managed to find Famjin on Google maps - you're right - it's a fair way up the west coast (and about the only habitation on the west coast). I wonder if this was part of the original plan or a response to tide and weather conditions?

Cheers

Hi Simon - I found an interesting website showing tides around the Faroe Islands:

http://www.sleipnir.fo/setur/nvd/havfrodi/Sjovarfall/Sudur/sudur_fr_en.htm

Not surprised they're they're having to work hard.

Wind looks to be 22km/hr from SE so could be a factor in their decision to go up the west coast:

Eagerly awaiting further info.

Hi Alan,
I can tell you that when mike climbs to a peak of a munro and discovers that their's another peak slightly higher, he will have to go on to the very top even if it kills him. Unless he has stood on the very top he's had a wasted day. For Mike its not the taking part it's the winning.

So now they have passed land he will go on to the most populated town and he will drag Pat with him if necessary . Famjin is that top point. I almost expected him to go on to Torshavn.

Hi Phil - thanks for that insight - I suspect Patrick won't need much dragging but I imagine the pair of them will be getting very weary by now!

Good grief, I just can't imagine someone like Patrick being dragged anywhere!!

What an amazing crossing, I just can't wait to hear of their safe arrival.

:o)

According to Suðuroyarportalurin, it's not Famjin, but Vágar. Yes, Famjin is the only village on the west coast. But Vágar has on old slipway to the west, even if the west coast is tall and steep there.
